Course Description
This e-learning course has been designed for qualified International Nordic Walking Association (INWA) instructors, to enable greater understanding of the complexities of Parkinson’s Disease and the benefits that exercise and Nordic walking have on the condition. This course will increase your confidence and quality of care when working with Parkinson’s Disease affected clients. By the end of this module you will be able to explain;
- The basic concept of pathology behind Parkinson’s Disease and its effect on the body
- Common clinical presentations of Parkinson’s Disease
- Gait alterations that may be seen with Parkinson’s Disease
- The benefits of exercise specifically for Parkinson’s Disease
- The potential benefits of Nordic walking for people with Parkinson’s Disease
- The teaching considerations and risks when Nordic walking with people with Parkinson’s Disease
- How you may adapt the INWA 10 step process to assist in teaching people with Parkinson’s Diseaseto Nordic walk
Overall this module will increase your confidence to teach Nordic walking to people with Parkinson’s Disease
Once purchased, the subscription to this course will last for 6 months, in that time modules can be worked on at your own pace. It will take approximately 8-10 hours to complete the course. You will be questioned at the end of each chapter to ensure you have learnt and understood the main principles and concepts. You are unable to progress through the module until you have passed each chapter by 85%.
Please remember this course is a source of information to increase knowledge and skill, it does NOT provide any formal qualifications to treat someone with Parkinson’s Disease. Parkinson’s Disease is a complex neurological condition that needs to be managed individually by qualified experts including neurologists, doctors, neurological physiotherapists and Parkinson’s nurses.
