Here in Australia it is national stoke week 8th to 14th September 2014.

Stroke is a leading cause of disability and is Australia’s second biggest killer after coronary heart disease and will happen to 1 in 6 people. Stroke week has been designed to increase the awareness of stroke, increase the understanding of what a stroke is, what are the risk factors of a stroke and what can be done to help prevent a stroke.

What are the initial signs of a stroke:

Think F.A.S.T.

F = Face        Check their face. Has their mouth drooped?

A = Arm       Can they lift both arms?

S = Speech   Is their speech slurred? Do they understand you?

T = Time       Is critical. If you see any of these signs call 000(emergency) straight away.
